Rupa Palla is a junior at Northwestern University majoring in Journalism and International Studies. She reports with the school’s broadcast station Northwestern News Network where she serves as an associate producer for the general news show, Northwestern News Report. As an AP, she has the opportunity to explore her passion for multimedia journalism by writing scripts, creating packages, reporting, and editing content.

Previously, Palla has worked as Production Intern at The Jam morning show on the CW Network. In addition, she worked as a Content Intern at WCPT 820 AM- Chicago’s Progressive Talk with the show Live, Local, and Progressive with Joan Esposito where she pitched stories, researched various leads, and compiled research briefs.

She has experience with social media as the Social Media/Marketing Intern for NextGroup, a start-up based in Evanston, Il focused on helping women return to the work place after a hiatus. In this position, Palla wrote social media posts and compiled information for company newsletters.

Previously, Palla worked as a freelance blog writer for the Chicago-based TV show “Family Travel” that airs on globally on PBS.

In 2017, Rupa was the state runner up for Broadcast News at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state competition. In addition, Rupa placed multiple times at the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association conference and most notably received a Blue Ribbon for her multimedia package. At the Illinois Journalism Education Association conference, Rupa was also awarded honorable mentions for her multimedia package and best video story.

While attending Downers Grove South High School, Rupa served as the Video Announcements Director and on her school’s newspaper The Blueprint for two years.

In the future, Rupa hopes to work as a television news reporter.
